Blue and purple wisps of energy swirl among the blackness of the vast universe. This pen features chatoyant blue and purple swirls against an opaque black background. This pen is polished to a glossy shine, that feels smooth and silky in the hand.
We view each handcrafted fountain pen 1499as a functional work of art, our pens are turned individually on a wood lathe. Our hands touch each one, and we are involved in the process throughout, from cutting the blank to size, (we also cast many of our own blanks) boring out the blank, squaring, turning to shape and specifications, and finally sanding and polishing. Here at Barrel and Nib the process matters, having our hands touch each part has meaning, we believe in the value of “handcrafted” and feel this means each pen carries with it the attention and energy with which it was made

She passed away on September 1, 2023 at only 57, from complications of early onset Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a devastating diagnosis, there is no cure or even very effective medications to slow it down, it’s a cruel disease that ravages the brain, body, and memory of those afflicted
Brenda was my sister in law, she was kind, and caring with a child like innocence. She loved God and her family, she was married with three adult children and 12 grandchildren that she adored. One of her adult children is special needs and she was his primary caretaker, and never once did I witness her act as if he were a burden…because that was her heart, selfless and kind. The world lost a good one, to a devastating disease.
As we are able to gain momentum with our business, you will always see pens with purple on our website, these pens are representative of the color for Alzheimer’s and a portion of our profit will go to the Alzheimer’s Association for every purple pen purchased.
It has always been in my heart to figure out a way to do good in the world with my art. Honestly, I was a bit stumped for awhile as to how I was going to achieve this through pen making, but then I realized I could donate in her honor and maybe someday there will be a cure.
*When donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Association 78% of the proceeds are used for Alzheimer’s disease care, research, awareness and advocacy. 18% goes to fundraising and 4% for administrative expenses.
